ANNOUNCES NEW CONSULTANT
 
Brakke Consulting is pleased to announce the addition of Joel Adamson to its team of consultants.
 
Joel Adamson recently retired as senior vice president, business development, for Sergeant's Pet Care Products, Inc.  He has held a variety of executive positions in general management, marketing and operations for companies which manufacture and market consumer packaged goods, animal health products, chemical specialties and other products.  He is a member of the board of directors of the American Pet Products Manufacturers Association (APPMA) and the Pet Industry Joint Advisory Council (PIJAC).

COMPANY EARNINGS RELEASES
 
> ImmuCell Corporation announced the results of its operations for the year ended December 31, 2007.   Product sales increased by 11% to $4.77 million compared to the same period in 2006. Most of this growth came from export sales. The company reported net income of $662,000 during the year ended December 31, 2007 compared to $647,000 during the same period in 2006.  (company press release)  
 
> Biopure Corporation announced its financial results for the fiscal year ended October 31, 2007.  For the fiscal year, total revenues were $2.6 million, including $2.1 million from sales of Oxyglobin. This compares to revenues in 2006 of $1.7 million, including $1.3 million from Oxyglobin sales. The increase in Oxyglobin sales is due to a higher average selling price in fiscal 2007 compared to fiscal 2006 and to a change in selling arrangement with Biopure's European distributor. > Animal Health International, Inc. announced that net sales increased 19% to $203 million for its second fiscal quarter ended December 31, 2007. Acquisitions accounted for $13.8 million or 42% of the increase in sales. Organic sales increased 11.2% from the same period last year. Net income increased 26.1% to $5.5 million. > Central Garden & Pet Company announced results for its fourth quarter ended September 29, 2007. Net sales for the Pet Products segment were $221 million, a decrease of 7% compared to the fourth quarter of fiscal 2006. (company website) 
 
> Spectrum Brands, Inc. announced results for its fiscal first quarter ended December 30, 2007. Global Pet Supplies net sales were $142.5 million, a 3% increase compared with the prior year. (company website)

> Merial announces the expansion of the IGENITY profile with the addition of analyses for heifer pregnancy rate, stayability (longevity), calving ease and docility. The IGENITY profile already includes multiple-marker analyses for tenderness, marbling, quality grade, fat thickness, ribeye area, hot carcass weight, yield grade and coat color. >  Bioniche Life Sciences announced it has received notice from the USDA that the latest data for its E. coli O157:H7 cattle vaccine is eligible for a conditional license.  The conditional license will allow the company to market the vaccine in the US, provided that at least one step in the manufacturing process is performed in the US, and Bioniche will not use a trademark name for the vaccine. > AgInfoLink USA announced its selection as the information solutions provider to develop and maintain a registry of cloned animals and operate the supply chain management system.  Life sciences companies ViaGen Inc. and Trans Ova Genetics will be the first companies to utilize the registry. AgInfoLink also announced the launch of a public web-based Verified Cattle Listing Service.  The system will list animals for sale with verified attributes including Age and Source PVP verification, Country of Origin compliance, natural, non-hormone treated, and health or nutrition program. > Arana Therapeutics (formerly Peptech Ltd) announced the disposal of the Animal Health division to Parma Corporation Pty, Ltd., a company controlled by the former Chairman of Peptech, Mel Bridges.  Financial terms were not disclosed. (Objective Capital)
 
> Aribex, Inc. introduced the NOMAD handheld X-ray for veterinary dentistry. NOMAD produces diagnostic quality x-rays, and works equally well with both film and digital imaging media. (company press release) 
 
> Morphogenesis, a US biotechnology company, announced plans to increase production of ImmuneFX, its US-patented cancer vaccine for companion animals. According to the company, the product is in late pre-clinical trials, and should be ready for clinical Phase 1 filing within a year. (Animal Pharm) 
 
> ThermoGenesis Corp. announced a regenerative medicine initiative in the veterinary market.  The Company has created a wholly-owned subsidiary, Vantus, Inc., a veterinary stem cell laboratory services company using the Company's MarrowXpress and BioArchive Systems. The Company is in the process of completing a research collaboration with the Center for Equine Health and Stem Cell Regenerative Medicine Group at the University of California, Davis, School of Veterinary Medicine. > CANADA   Ridley Inc. announced it will pay $6 million to Canada's cattle producers to end its exposure to class actions over the arrival of BSE. The company will pay into a plaintiffs' settlement trust fund to settle claims against it in four coordinated lawsuits filed by ranchers in Alberta, Ontario, Quebec and Saskatchewan. > CANADA   VetCell Bioscience Ltd and the Atlantic Veterinary College at the University of Prince Edward Island announced a partnership establishing the Atlantic Veterinary College as the Canadian center for the introduction of VetCell's equine stem cell therapy technology. VetCell's technology involves extracting stem cells from an injured horse's healthy tissue, multiplying those cells in the laboratory, and re-injecting the cells into the soft tissue wound of that horse to improve healing rates and reduce re-injury. ANIMAL HEALTH NEWS
 
> US - BRUCELLOSIS   USDA declared Texas cattle free of brucellosis, making all 50 states plus Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands simultaneously designated Class Free status for the first time in the 74-year history of the brucellosis program. (Meating Place)
 
>  US - PET FOOD INDICTMENTS   Two Chinese businesses and a US company were indicted in the tainted pet food incidents last year.  Xuzhou Anying Biologic Technology Development; Suzhou Textiles, Silk, Light Industrial Products Arts and Crafts I/E; and Las Vegas-based ChemNutra were charged in two separate but related indictments.  According to the US Attorney, prosecutors aren't alleging that ChemNutra knew that the product was toxic, only that they were aware the product had been shipped into the US under false pretenses and failed to notify their customers. The Chinese government is cooperating with the investigation and shut down Xuzhou shortly after its connection to the melamine scare was discovered last year. (CNN Money)
